BRAD'S COMMENTS:  An otherwise-apocryphal design whose only link with reality seems to be the "Sphinx Work Pod" on page 162 of Rick Sternbach's TNG Technical Manual.  Whereas the FASA version is a full-size shuttle design intended for cargo tug and transport duty, the actual Sphinx is a TNG-era "work bee" design with no warp capability and a single pilot housed in a forward-facing bubble canopy; much like the original "work bee" from ST:TMP.  Nothing like FASA's version has ever been seen on either larger or small screen, so I think it's safe to assume that it was wholly invented at the time of the writing of the TNG Officer's Manual, perhaps based on productions notes concerning model(s) that Mike Okuda and Rick Sternbach had yet to create?

S-22 Sphinx Cargo Shuttle
NOTES:
Deriving its name from its vaguely leonine shape, this Adorian design Sphinx is a miniature version of the much larger cargo transports used extensively by Starfleet.  With its oval duraplast command cockpit, which gives the crew a 240-degree view, this craft is a readily identifiable sight around all but the most remote Starfleet installations.  Used primarily in support of ground-based facilities and on larger vessels, the Sphinx Class shuttle’s cargo pods are slung under the belly of the craft for transporting cargos either too unstable or too bulky for normal transporter transit. Each cargo pod can carry 25 standard cargo units, and the raft can haul up to four such pods and can jettison them individually, if necessary.
