BRAD'S COMMENTS:  Like the Federation class battleship, this is a design resurrected from the beloved Star Trek Star Fleet Technical Manual by Franz Joseph.  As noted on the Nelson page, the original design of the Saladin is so similar to the original design of the Nelson, one can only conclude that FASA "ripped off" the Saladin when creating the Nelson.  Thus, I have used identical graphics for Saladin and Nelson both, taken from their original source.  I also used a new Excel spreadsheet (an aid I built to help me with the old STSTCS Ship Construction Manual tables) to create the stats for this ship, so there are accurate WDF and D numbers.  I didn't initially look at the Larson class destroyer from the UFP Recognition Manual, but invariably because of the restrictions of the old design system, I came up with something that was similar to the Larson.  Ascending through the Mark III model, I have made the Saladin more potent offensively than the Larson, especially where torpedoes are concerned.  I was tempted to write backstory for this class too, but since the Technical Manual has no backstory for the Saladin, I have chosen to leave this info up to the reader's imagination.
