D-16 "Swiftwind" class ● Destroyer
etween the original FASA D-16 design and the D-4 design, the D-16 looks like a better ancestor for the D-7. Mainly because the wing-form secondary hull shares so much with the D-7, whereas the D-4 wing-form is different. When approaching a re-draw of the D-16 in 2007 I had to decide: stick with the original FASA length of 190 meters, or go with apparent size, based on the Klingon command pod and warp nacelles, in which case the craft is considerably larger than FASA lists it as being. Having drawn a 'small' version, and showed it to the crowd at the BBS, I decided, after fan reaction, to go with the "long" version of the D-16. Naturally, with expanded size, come expanded stats. For playability I gave this class stats for the era between ST:TMP and ST:VI, with a little overlap in the post-Kirk era. Also also, I finally gave this class what it has so badly needed all along: a torpedo! --- Brad, STSTCSOLD&A
