V-5 "Skyfire" Class ● Cruiser ● Romulan Empire
THE V-5 IS THE FIRST OF THE EARLY ROMULAN CRUISERS which I have found to be generally playable in any TOS-era scenario. Good superstructure, good weapons, enough power to charge up shields and disruptors to decent levels. I have had success playing these ships against early D-4, D-7s, D-9, and Anton class cruisers. Though not an exact match, a trio of V-5 cruisers versus a trio of Antons can be interesting. Likewise, a trio of V-5s against a trio of early D-7s can be fun. The only time the V-5 starts running into real trouble is when played against obviously superior ships like late-model D-7s or Constitution, Reliant/Miranda, and Enterprise/Constitution Refit class cruisers. The V-5's big advantage is that it comes equipped with cloaking ability, enabling it to stage sneak and surprise attacks that neither the early Federation nor early Klingon ships can match. — BRT
