BRAD'S COMMENTS: There is even less hard data on the Steamrunner class than its contemporary the Saber. For the sake of differentiation in the FASA system I have established the Steamrunner as a light frigate companion to the light cruiser Steamrunner, with both ships operating in auxiliary support of heavier vessels like the Akira, Sovereign, or even the dedicated exploration cruisers like the Galaxy and Intrepid. Not as heavy or heavily armed/armored as the Saber, the Steamrunner carries a small company of Marines for ship-boarding actions, and other situations requiring "boots on the ground". Both the Steamrunner and Saber share a similarity in their unconventional design, in that the bussard collectors of their warp nacelles are built directly into the port and starboard edges of the irregularly-shaped primary hull. What purpose this might serve, I cannot say, though I have seen some text indicating that the nacelles offer the inhabited primary hull a degree of protection during ship-to-ship melees.
